Kunsthaus Graz
About
The Kunsthaus Graz, also known as the Graz Art Museum, opened in 2003 as part of Austria’s European Capital of Culture celebrations. Architecturally it is recognized for its blob design – a shimmering shell of iridescent blue acrylic panels that double as photovoltaic panels – earning it the nickname “Friendly Alien.” Inside, the museum hosts rotating contemporary art exhibitions from the 1960s to the present, focusing on international multidisciplinary shows in new media, film, photography and sculpture, and it does not maintain a permanent collection. Visitors are drawn by its bold form and innovative exhibition spaces that blend art and technology. The iconic BIX façade showcases synchronized LED lighting, turning the building into a moving canvas. The landmark is not only a cultural experience but also a striking addition to Graz’s skyline, making it a must‑visit for architecture enthusiasts and contemporary art lovers.
