Tyrolean Folk Art Museum
About
The Tyrolean Folk Art Museum, situated beside Innsbruck’s historic Hofkirche, offers a journey through the region’s rich cultural heritage. Housed in the elegant halls of a former Franciscan monastery, the museum showcases an extensive collection of folk artefacts, including traditional costumes, household items, glassware, pottery, peasant furniture, and religious iconography. The permanent exhibitions are organised across four wings, featuring restored rooms from Gothic to Baroque periods that were originally part of Tyrolean farmhouses and noble estates. Visitors are greeted by the charismatic guide Lucifer, who playfully challenges conventional ideas about art and craft, making the experience both enlightening and entertaining. Highlights such as the ‘Miniatures of the Gospel’, the Studiensammlung, and the historic Stüben offer visitors intimate insights into Tyrolean daily life and craftsmanship.
