The Birkenhof Pension is located at the edge of the forest, right at the entrance of the »Höhenbach« gorge. It is surrounded by lush meadows and you will even find a little rivulet nearby, it´s only 3 minutes by foot to the centre of the village. The fun park for basketball, streetball and handball;the children´s playground with sand pit, swing, see-saw and climbing frame;tennis courts, football courts, mini-golf court, and an inline skating park withramps for children, youngsters and those who are still young at heart – funfor everybody.On warm days the »Oberlechtal« outdoor swimming pool as well as the numerous Lech- river banks, all the rivulets and springs offer welcome refreshment and have drinking water quality.In the immediate surroundings you will find more than 300km of well marked hiking trails as well as alpine huts which invite you to take a break. Hikes through fascinating gorges and tours up to the mountains for the trained by foot or by mountain-bike…You can rent equipment or attend courses for rafting, kayak and canyoning.Courses and tandem flights are offered for both paragliding and hanggliding.In winter:we can offer you a very special advantage. You can ski or toboggan right to the front door of our guest houses. The cross-country have more than 100km of cross-country tracks (mainly with a skating track) at their disposal. Hiking in wintertime is possible with hut stops.Parents will definitely enjoy watching their children at the ski kindergarden from the sun terrace of the »Birkenhof«.Sport activities are not only confined to daylight: the toboggan run with transport on to the mountain and a part of the cross-country track are illuminated in the evening. The fact that the 4-star skiing area of Wartham Arlberg is very close, will undoubtedly delight the expert skiers.It is not difficult to arrive in Holzgau even during the »snowy season«. You don´t need to cross any mountains or alpine passes, but can make your way on flat salted and gritted streets without vignette right into the alpine world of the Lechtal Valley.
