Downstream - Upstream: An exciting journey through the history of the historical shipping on the Danube within the historical ambience of the "Erlahof" castle. Let us dive down to the bed of the river and see what it has kept as a record of ancient times - in the Danube. Let us travel against the current of the river, upstream in a heavily laden timber cargo boat - with the Danube and follow the teams of horses that pulled the boat upstream against the current with enormous effort - on the Danube. At the villages along the riverbanks to the workshops of a boat builder and the raft construction sites - along the Danube. This is the way we take to follow the course of the Danube in the museum and to learn how our forefathers earned a living: in harmony with the moods of the river and the mighty forces of nature.
