About
The Secession Building (Wiener Secessionsgebäude) at Friedrichstraße 12 in Vienna is an iconic exemplar of Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) designed by Joseph Maria Olbrich between 1897 and 1898. It houses a permanent collection of modernist art, most famously Gustav Klimt’s monumental Beethovenfries, which adorns the façade and has become a symbol of the movement’s synthesis of architecture, painting, and sculpture. Visitors can explore rotating exhibitions, meet the artists through talks and podcasts, and experience the historical ambiance of the historic venue, which has been open to the public since 1914 with regular hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Sunday.
