Folklore Museum
About
The Folklore Museum in Bruges is a charming, family‑friendly destination that offers a nostalgic glimpse into daily life in Bruges during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Housed in a restored 17th‑century workers’ house, the museum’s rooms showcase a former classroom, pharmacy, tailor’s workshop, sweet shop, and grocery store, all filled with rare objects such as tobacco products, children’s games, and biscuit moulds. The museum is especially popular with children and school groups thanks to its interactive ‘Children of the Past’ presentation, seven game stations where kids can practice writing, weigh coffee with an old scale, try on hats, and play tailor, and a sweet shop that bakes artisanal treats every Thursday afternoon. Visitors can end their trip with a drink at the museum inn, ‘The Black Cat’, and perhaps meet four‑legged mascot Aristide. With free admission for children under 13, a modest adult entry fee of €8, and the convenience of a Musea Brugge Card, the museum offers a delightful blend of history, hands‑on fun, and local culture.
