Le Trappiste
About
Le Trappiste is a specialty beer bar nestled inside an 800‑year‑old medieval cellar that dates back to the 13th century. The historic underground space was once the storage for cooperage barrels and was rediscovered in 1973 when the ground‑level house was demolished. Today it offers a unique atmosphere where the rich aromas of 27 beers on tap and 150 bottled beers are presented alongside a carefully curated selection of guest brews from Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK, Denmark, Germany, the USA and Italy. The bar is open daily from 5 p.m. until midnight, with extended hours on Friday and Saturday until 1 a.m. The venue is a seated bar with a capacity of around 100 seats, and reservations are not required for general bar entry. However, for those looking to deepen their beer knowledge, Le Trappiste offers a guided beer tasting experience for parties of eight or more. The 2‑hour tasting, which includes a cheese and sausage snack, costs €25 per person and must be reserved in advance by email (letrappistebrugge@gmail.com) or phone (+32 475 455 066). For visitors who prefer a quick tasting, the bar also features “Tasting Paddles‑Flights” – a selection of five 15 cl glasses chosen from the tap list for €14. The combination of an historic cellar, a vast beer menu, and intimate guided tastings makes Le Trappiste a must‑visit for beer lovers and history enthusiasts alike.
