About
The Royal Museum for Central Africa, operating under the brand name AfricaMuseum, is a preeminent centre for knowledge about Central Africa. Located in the historic town of Tervuren just outside Brussels, the museum traces its origins from the 1897 International Exposition to a modern, research‑driven institution. Over the past decades it has transformed from a colonial showcase into a dynamic platform that explores the complex heritage of the Congo, the broader Central African region, and the ecological diversity of the Congo Basin. After an extensive €66 million renovation, the museum reopened on 9 December 2018 with an expanded exhibition space of 11 000 m² and a renewed focus on contemporary interpretations of African history.
