Location and atmosphere Chateau Cortils is a centuries -old estate where you can return to self. It is a unique place in the Land of Herve , in the north of the province of Liege . The estate was founded in the Carolingian period in 941 and has as its base the Donjon , a fortress in the shape of a tower that had to protect the people . In the eleven centuries after that it has been constantly renovated and expanded , like the coach house and the guest rooms , the conservatory and the large square farm. The estate is seventy-six acres , and is a listed building . Sixty hectares are used for agriculture . There are Breton Ouessant sheep , chickens and bees . Unique are the more than eighty species of flora and fauna. The aim is to restore the estate to it's former autonomy. Owner and architect Laugs Baldwin and his wife Constance Cox like to share with you the source of inspiration that Cortils is for them. Facilities and offerings In and around the castle are seven accommodations for rent , ranging from two to ten people and together also available as group accommodation. Whether you stay in the Knights hal of the balcony stay or romantically in the Tower, from every nook and cranny you breathe the atmosphere of a bygone era . All units are fully furnished . The Pavilion is a workshop and course room for thirty people and with incomparable views over the rolling countryside . There is also a professionally equipped kitchen with dining area for rent . See all the possibilities at our site . Surroundings and activities Cortils estate is a paradise for nature lovers and lovers of tranquility . There are several walks in the area. Very special is the descent with a miners elevator down into the coal mine of Blegny , which is on the World Heritage list of UNESCO. You are in the triangle of the cities of Maastricht, Aachen and Liege . The charming towns Aubel and Vise with their weekly markets and typical restaurants are located nearby.
