M - Museum Leuven
About
M – Museum Leuven, usually called simply M, is a contemporary art museum housed in the historic heart of Leuven. Opened in 2009 after an extensive refurbishment of the former mayor’s residence, the museum boasts an impressive collection of over 46,000 works that span late‑Gothic and Renaissance art, 16th‑century local masters such as Jan Rombouts and Josse van der Baren, and 19th‑century Flemish giants like Constantin Meunier, Jef Lambeaux, and George Minne. Beyond its permanent holdings, M is celebrated for dynamic temporary exhibitions, family‑friendly workshops, an on‑site café, an auditorium, and a spacious courtyard that encourages visitors to linger and discover. Architect Stéphane Beel’s redesign skillfully marries historic elements with modern design, highlighted by a striking glass‑roofed courtyard that has become a central gathering spot for both art and community events.
