In the Rhodope mountain range, on the border with Bulgaria, there is the Drymos forest, also known as Hajdu. The Haidous forest is a paradise on earth with centuries-old beech trees over 30 meters high. In addition to the beeches, the forest has pines, firs, spruces but and yellow lily that grows in the Rhodope Mountains. Bears, wolves and deer find shelter in the area. Since the eighties, 180 acres of the forest have been designated a "Nature Monument" and are a protected area. In the area one can find several plants endemic to the Rhodopes, as well as other rare species of flora of the Greek area. There are also rare species of mammals and birds. In Haidu there are bare lands and meadows as well as bare mountain slopes. Many streams and small rivers flow with fast and cold water that make up the trout zone. It is a forest with centuries-old beech trees, 18 in areahectares and is located in the area of ​​Mount Haidu, in the Central Rhodope mountain range, north of the city of Xanthi. The height of the trees exceeds 30m. and the diameter of their trunk varies around 1-1.30m. creating an imposing image. In the wider area (Mt. Haidu, Mt. Kula and surrounding peaks) there are many rare mammals and birds. The most important of these are the bear, the deer, the wolf, the wild boar, the fox, the ferret, the wild voles, the water voles, the long-tailed deer.
