About

Borovets is Bulgaria’s oldest and most iconic winter resort, perched on the northern slopes of Rila Mountain at an elevation of 1,350 m. The village—once a royal hunting lodge built by General Tantilov and later the summer palace of Ferdinand I—has evolved into a bustling ski hub that welcomes skiers from around the world. With 58 km of well‑maintained pistes ranging from gentle green tracks to challenging black runs, visitors can ski almost directly from the slopes to the heart of the village. The lift system is one of the most advanced in the country, featuring a 6‑person gondola that climbs to 2,363 m, two high‑speed quad chairlifts, a fixed‑grip quad, and a network of surface lifts and tows; all operate from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with a dedicated night‑skiing pass available separately. Beyond downhill, Borovets offers a full array of cross‑country tracks (33 km) and a world‑class biathlon complex that hosted the 1993 Biathlon World Championships. The resort’s expansion plans – the so‑called Super Borovets project – envision three tiers of development, from budget‑friendly lodgings to luxury 5‑star accommodations, and will add up to 19 new pistes, expanding the skiable area to roughly 90 km. Whether you’re chasing crisp powder, enjoying a family ski vacation, or exploring the nearby Black Rock of Chamkoria for a scenic break, Borovets delivers a blend of mountain adventure, historic charm, and modern amenities that has made it a staple destination for winter sports enthusiasts since the late 19th century.
