Sunj Beach
About
Sunj Beach lies on the picturesque island of Lopud, part of Croatia’s Dalmatian archipelago. The island, covering 4.63 km², is renowned for its charming sandy coves—most famously the bay of Šunj—along with gentle waves that make it a popular spot for family recreation, kayaking, and sun‑bathing. The island’s compact size (about 1.2 km of coastline) and mild Mediterranean climate mean visitors can enjoy swimming and beach activities throughout the clear summer months, while the surrounding pine forests and historic churches offer a tranquil backdrop. Historically, Lopud thrived as a trading hub for the Republic of Ragusa and later became a tourist destination in the 20th century, with a fleet of hotels that have been revitalised in recent years, providing accommodation ranging from traditional stone houses to modern resorts. Despite its small population—just 278 residents as of the 2021 census—Lopud presents a blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage that attracts travelers looking for an authentic Dalmatian getaway.
