About

The Marko Polo centre is a unique place where visitors will have the opportunity to get to know the life and legacy of Marko Polo. Visitors are introduced to the historical context that led to the travels, the route itself, difficulties, new discoveries, ways of life in other parts of the world as well as his contribution to bringing together East and West. Our institution offers visitors an insight into the life and legacy of Marko Polo, the famous naval battle between Venice and Genoa in 1298 as well as the history of the town and island of Korčula from the 13th to the 16th century. The centre builds its narrative on the historical fact that Marko Polo participated with his galley in the naval battle between the Venetian and the Genoese fleet that took place in the Korčula archipelago on the 7th September 1298.
