Merlon Bar & Restaurant & Accommodation is located in Tvrđa, the old baroque and most beautiful core of the city of Osijek. The Osijek Fortress is a baroque city-fortress of the 18th century, created in a large strategic system of baroque fortified cities on the border with the Ottoman Empire. When devising the name Merlon, extensive research was carried out on the Fortress and it was decided that the name of the brewery should remain closely related to the history of the Fortress or its architectural style. Merlon (breastplate) is the name for a solid upright part of the fence in the architecture of fortifications, which serves as protection for observers and the army at the top of the fort. The name Merlon thus corresponds to the primary function of the Fortress, which was built for military purposes.
