St. Michael's Fortress
About
St. Michael's Fortress is the oldest and most prominent fortification in Šibenik, dating back to the 11th century. Perched on a steep cliff above the old town, it offers sweeping views of the St. Anthony Channel, the Adriatic Sea and the mouth of the Krka River. The fortress, recently renovated in 2014, features a modern open‑air stage that hosts concerts and cultural events, a 1077‑seat grandstand, and interactive displays. Visitors can explore the cisterns with 3D mapping projections, listen to an audio guide, and visit the on‑site shop for souvenirs. The fortress’s historic ramparts, contemporary architecture, and vibrant event program make it a must‑visit destination for history buffs, music lovers and families alike, especially during the lively summer season when it becomes one of the region’s premier concert venues.
