Cave Bisevo
About
The Blue Grotto, or Modra špilja, is a stunning sea‑cave perched on the island of Biševo in the central Dalmatian archipelago. The cavern stretches 24 m long, plunges 10–12 m deep, and rises up to 15 m high, making it a perfect natural amphitheatre for a spectacular light show. Sunlight filtered through the sealed underground entrance creates an ethereal blue glow that lights up the entire interior, turning the water into a mirror of aquamarine and silver. The cave was first discovered by the sea and later expanded in 1884 to accommodate small vessels, giving visitors an unobstructed view of the luminous chamber. Every year the Blue Grotto attracts over 10,000 visitors, many of whom also explore the neighboring Green Caves. The best time to experience the immaculate blue illumination is midway between 11 am and 12 pm, when the sun’s angle is optimal. Whether you’re traveling solo, with family, or with friends, the Blue Grotto offers a serene, awe‑inspiring escape into one of the Adriatic’s most picturesque natural wonders.
