Konopiště Castle, situated in the picturesque town of Benešov in Central Bohemia, is a striking example of 14th‑century Gothic fortification refined into a Renaissance‑Gothic château. The castle gained worldwide notoriety as the final residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, whose assassination in Sarajevo in 1914 sparked the outbreak of World War I.
