Mlynska kolonada
About
The Mlynské Kolońada is a stunning pseudoreenaissance stone colonnade that graces the left bank of the Teplá River in the heart of Karlovy Vary. Designed by renowned Czech architect Josef Zítek and completed between 1871 and 1881, the colonnade showcases a harmonious blend of classicistic elegance and cultural symbolism. Inside, 12 iconic sandstone statues—each representing one of the months—stand proudly atop a sculptural terrace that pays homage to the mineral-rich waters that flow beside the promenade. Five mineral springs—Mlýnský, Rusalka, Prince Václav, Libuše, and Rock—emanate from the foundation, offering visitors a fragrant mist of natural spa water. Bells and a small fountain punctuate the avenue, providing a gentle soundtrack as guests meander along the steps. The colonnade’s public accessibility makes it an ideal spot for leisurely strolls, family picnics, or an evocative backdrop for photos. Its historic significance and picturesque riverside location make it a must-see landmark for anyone exploring the thermal resort town of Karlovy Vary.
