The Cemetery Church of All Saints with the Ossuary
About
The Sedlec Ossuary, also known as the Chapel of Bones, is a tiny Baroque chapel tucked within the graveyard of the Church of All Saints in Kutná Hora. Originally constructed in the late 14th century and later redecorated in the early 18th century by the renowned architect Jan Santini Aichel, the ossuary is celebrated for its astonishing interior—an enormous chandelier made entirely of human bones, along with walls lined with the skeletons of more than 40,000 people who died during plague epidemics and the Hussite Wars. The delicate bone mosaics and the spiritual reverence of the space make it a powerful reminder of mortality that has drawn world‑renowned photographers, historians and pilgrims alike. The chapel is part of the UNESCO World Heritage‑listed Sedlec Abbey complex and is a must‑visit highlight of Kutná Hora’s rich cultural heritage.
