Park Zdrojowy
About
Not only is the Spa Park a favourite spot of numerous Jastrzebie residents, but also a space where the spa heritage of the town is the most vibrant. Even when Count Felix von Königsdorff was founding the resort, the park was to be one of its crucial elements. In the interwar period there was even a ski jump operating here. Since its very beginning, the Spa Park was divided into two parts, which was forced by the lie of the land. The upper part was designed as a garden – with statues depicting mythological motifs, benches, and sanatorium buildings. The so-called Mikołaj’s Valley had a somewhat different character – rich in vegetation, intersected with winding paths running between steep slopes of the ravine. This division is preserved to this day. If you wish to feel like in the times of glory of the spa, you should visit the recently renovated brine inhalatorium. Since 1960s there is a statue “Duet” by Stanisław Słodowy (often mistakenly called “A Dancing Couple”) right in front of it, and in its direct vicinity you can see the building of Masnówka and the pump room. However, the most impressive monument located in the Spa Park, a symbol of the city, is the Spa House. This is where concerts, theatre performances, and activities for children are organised. Together with the building of the Baths II (City History Gallery) and the band shell, the Spa House demarcates the limits of a small piazza with a fountain. An additional attraction is the nearby colourful flower clock. The Spa Park delights with the diversity of its vegetation – you will find here our native tree species, as well as plants brough from North America (e.g. Douglas fir, Osage orange) or Asia (Ginko biloba). Whilst strolling along the park alleys, it is worth going down to the aforementioned Mikołaj’s Valley (which owes its name to Doctor Mikołaj Witczak). In the ravine surrounded with lush vegetation one can notice charming Finnish bridges, where lovers attach padlocks as a symbol of their eternal love, like they do in European capital cities.
