About
The Head of Franz Kafka – a striking kinetic sculpture by Czech artist David Černý – graces the exterior of Prague’s Quadrio shopping centre. This 10.6‑metre‑tall bronze‑like installation consists of 42 stainless‑steel panels that rotate individually, creating a mesmerizing, ever‑shifting head that captures the existential spirit of its namesake. Powered by 21 motor modules and a kilometre of cables, the sculpture has been in circulation since 31 October 2014 and is a popular landmark for visitors exploring Prague’s New Town. Be sure to take a moment to watch the panels shift, and enjoy the unique blend of contemporary engineering and artistic homage to the world‑renowned writer.
