About
Standing majestically in Letná Park, the Prague Metronome is a striking 23‑metre kinetic sculpture that has become a symbol of the city’s post‑communist identity. Replacing the demolished Joseph Stalin monument in 1962, the seven‑tonne bronze metronome was erected in 1991 by artist Vratislav Novák. When it operates, the pendulum swings in time with a 4‑to‑6‑beat‑per‑minute rhythm, offering visitors an odd combination of art, history and a panoramic view of Prague. The artificial monument has also become a popular spot for skateboarders and a meeting point for locals and tourists alike.
