Prague Castle
About
Prague Castle – the largest ancient castle complex in the world – rises above the Vltava River on the hill of Hradčany, overlooking the historic city center. With origins that trace back to the late 8th century, the castle has served as the seat of Bohemian kings, Holy Roman emperors, and Czech presidents for over a millennium. Its architectural tapestry weaves Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and modern styles into a living museum, and it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990. Today visitors wander through the vaulted Vladislav Hall, the soaring spires of St. Vitus Cathedral, the richly painted Golden Lane, and the grand Old Royal Palace. The grounds host permanent exhibitions, guided tours, summer concerts, and seasonal festivals, offering a multifaceted experience that blends history, art, and contemporary culture.
