Ree Park Safari
About
Ree Park Safari, nestled in the heart of Djursland near Ebeltoft, is Denmark’s premier safari experience where families and wildlife lovers can see more than 800 animals from around 80 species and five continents. The park began as a modest local zoo in 1991, evolving over the years into a world‑class conservation center with a strong focus on endangered species. In 2006 the park was bought by Karsten Ree, and it adopted its current name to reflect its expanded purpose. Guests can walk or drive through expansive, natural‑looking habitats that honour the animals’ instinctive behaviours – from the hilly savannah designed for cheetahs to the lush wetlands that shelter otters and lemurs. A highlight is the Land Rover Safari, where you may drive past lions, giraffes, rhinos and a wide array of other exotic creatures in a safe, guided setting. The park also champions sustainable breeding programmes, with notable success in the European Endangered Species Programme. This includes breeding initiatives for cheetahs, African wild dogs, sand cats and the critically endangered red panda, among others. Visitors will notice the well‑maintained paths, informative displays, and the opportunity to learn about wildlife conservation right on site. Visiting two to three hours is ideal for seeing the main attractions, however families are encouraged to stay longer if they wish to explore each section in depth. The park’s warm, engaging atmosphere makes it an unforgettable adventure for solitary travellers, couples and especially families with children, who can visit interactive exhibits and observe playful primates up close. The best time to travel is during spring and autumn when Denmark’s weather is mild and visitor numbers are lower, ensuring a relaxed experience while the fauna are most active.
