Joelahtme Stone Barrows
About
The oldest and most imposing stone-cist barrows date back to the Late Bronze Age (8th-7th centuries BC). In connection with building a new road, in 1982–1984 archaeological emergency excavations took place (under the leadership of A. Kraut), during which in total 36 stone-cist barrows were found out. These were later “lifted” to the side of the new road in accordance with the photo plan and this is the place where you can also see these today. There is a Rebala Heritage Center-Museum next to the barrows. (There is an entrance ticket 3 euro for adults and 1 euro for children, 5 euros for families). There you can watch the short film about the first settlement, get to know a bit about the history and past, get the guidance to visit local surrounding areas, villages, local culture and tourism attractions. There has also possibly to take part of the local handicraft workshops, (please ask about this before you visit this building).
