About

Tammsaare Park is located in the centre of Tallinn, in the immediate vicinity of the Estonia Theatre. In 1896, a vacant lot here was paved and it became the new site of Tallinn's market, which was formerly located on Town Hall Square. Exhibitions were also held next to the market square. In 1903-1905, it was home o a giant wood "Interimstheater" -- a barn-type hall that was a venue for theatre performances and cinema screenings. In 1976, the park was redesigned, in 1978, a statue of the writer A. H. Tammsaare was placed in the centre of the park (designed by I. Soans and R. Luup) and in 1981, a sculpture, Merineid (Sea-Maiden), was added (E Viies). Interesting to know: - there are over 40 different woody plants in the park.
