About
The former Yeast Factory reopened as a cultural centre in 2008. The border of the city used to run by the Yeast Factory in the past and farmers travelling to the market used to let their horses have a drink from the factory’s watering point. The factory worked as a hydrotherapy centre in the first half of the 20th century.Various cultural activities are now breathing new life into the historical Ulejoe Quarter of the city. Exhibitions, concerts, festivals, literary evenings, conversation circles and everyday creative work now take place between the walls of the former factory. All this brought Tartu Kultuuritehas the Cultural Deed of the Year 2008 and Tartu Deed of the Year awards.
