Central Library Oodi
About
The Helsinki Central Library Oodi, affectionately called Oodi, sits at the heart of the city on Toolonlahdenkatu. Completed in 2018, the building shouts modernity with its glass‑and‑steel skeleton, wooden façade and soaring open spaces that invite visitors to roam, read and create. Inside, the library’s three stories are purpose‑built: the ground floor hosts a welcoming lobbies and cafés, the middle floor offers studios, game rooms and a city‑workshop for collaborative projects, while the top level quietly houses a vast reading room and the “Oodi 360°” interactive exhibition. Oodi is fully accessible, free to enter, and hosts a wide range of free events—from author talks and film screenings at the embedded Kino Regina to music and collaborative workshops in the city‑workshop. Its robotic book‑delivery system, a unique feature in any public library, lends a futuristic charm that appeals to both technology enthusiasts and families alike. Together, these offerings make Oodi a vibrant cultural hub that encourages spontaneous exploration and thoughtful inquiry in the heart of Helsinki.
