About
Old Market Hall (Finnish: Vanha kauppahalli) is Helsinki’s oldest market hall, built in 1889 in classic red‑brick with a striking cast‑iron framework that showcases the city’s late 19th‑century industrial heritage. The hall sits on Eteläranta, just steps from Market Square, and has evolved into a vibrant culinary hub featuring 25 hand‑picked vendors who sell cheeses, fresh fish, shellfish, meats, seasonal fruits, spices, confectionery, and finely crafted tableware. Within the historic space, a traditional restaurant and two cafés offer seasonal Finnish specialties and coffee, creating an inviting atmosphere where visitors can wander, sample local delicacies, and experience the charm of a preserved architectural gem.
