Wild Taiga consists of Kuhmo and Suomussalmi areas in the eastern border of Finland. Wild Taiga is a land of nature and potential. Its geography is dominated by hills, forests, lakes and rivers, mires, and pure, wild habitat which are home to wild forest reindeer, moose, and in particular, large carnivores which are either very rare or extinct elsewhere in Europe. For those who like the outdoors it offers diverse choice throughout the year. Amongst all the beauty and silence you can unwind from the stresses and strains of everyday life.Wild Taiga - offering a combination of wildlife watching and other outdoor activities supported by an insight into local heritage and traditions plus a world-class chamber music festival - won the title of Finland’s Emerging Tourist Destination of Excellence 2008 in the European Commission project European Destinations of Excellence.
