About
The International Cité of Comics and Image in Angoulême is a world‑class destination that brings together a diverse range of cultural programmes under one roof. At its heart lies the Musée de la Bande Dessinée, a spectacular museum that houses more than 25,000 original comic book boards and 250,000 prints, showcasing the evolution of the 9th art from its early days to contemporary masterpieces. Surrounding the museum, visitors will discover the Bibliothèque de la Bande Dessinée, a specialised library boasting over 55 000 comics, as well as the Maison des Auteurs, an international residency that supports more than fifty writers and illustrators annually. Beyond the museum, the Cité offers an arthouse cinema that screens a curated selection of independent and experimental films, a bookshop that carries a wide variety of graphic novels and merchandise, and a concession area where visitors can relax and enjoy quick bites. The Cité also hosts the renowned International Festival of Comics each January, drawing fans, authors and industry professionals from around the globe. The architectural layout is spread over three buildings along the Charente River, connected by the Hugo Pratt pedestrian bridge, creating a compact cultural hub that encourages visitors to explore each venue in a short walking distance. The entire complex is wheelchair accessible, with free admission for particular categories, making it an inclusive destination for families, students, researchers and comic enthusiasts alike.
