St. Paul de Mausole
About
The Monastery of Saint‑Paul de Mausole in Saint‑Rémy‑de‑Provence is a remarkable blend of medieval architecture and modern cultural heritage, home to the only museum that lets visitors walk in the rooms where the famed painter Vincent van Gogh resided from 1889 to 1890. Set against the backdrop of the Alpilles and the ancient Roman ruins of Glanum, the cloister and former asylum have been carefully restored to reflect their 11th‑century origins and the early 20th‑century asylum period. Today, the centre offers a unique Van Gogh experience: the reconstructed bedroom, the studio, and a collection of his paintings alongside the gallery Valetudo, a contemporary art space dedicated to art‑therapy in a historic context. The site is also open to researchers, students, and the general public, with free admission for local residents and other special categories, making it an inclusive cultural jewel in Provence.
