Bassins De Lumieres
About
The Bassins des Lumières is the world’s largest digital art centre, located in the former submarine base in Bordeaux’s historic port district. It was transformed by Culturespaces in 2020 into a monumental venue that hosts large‑scale immersive exhibitions inspired by masters of art history and contemporary creators alike. Visitor experience is divided into six distinct spaces: the 220 m² sound‑proof Cube, a 155 m² underground cistern, water‑driven “boulées d’aimarrage” for projected images, an on‑site museum detailing the submarine base’s WWII history, a dedicated educational area for children, and a mezzanine‑stage‑and‑seating configuration that offers multiple sightlines. The centre offers an educational programme called “Art en immersion” in partnership with the Fondation Culture pour l’Enfance, which brings immersive art to school‑aged children and young people who face social or health challenges. The venue also publishes a mobile app, hosts a café‑like food truck, and maintains a library‑gift shop. Tickets can be reserved online via the official booking page, and the site strongly recommends booking in advance, especially during peak tourist periods.
