About

Native home of the last minister of Foreign Affairs of Louis XVI, Antoine-Claude de Valdec de Lessart, the Château de Mongenan is the unique example preserved in the Bordeaux region of those “folies” which symbolized art and delight of living before the French Revolution. This house was built by the architect Le Herissey in 1736 for the baron de Gascq, President of the Parliament of Bordeaux, and his family since then. Listed as historical monument and its records, its collections, its Masonic temple and the three gardens, this house kept its entire scenery and furniture. Mongenan presents many things belonging to Jean-Jacques Rousseau as herbarium and music room. The Masonic temple was set in 1737, with its collection of documents and the ritual tools. Wine tasting.
