Musee du Debarquement Utah Beach
About
The Musée du Débarquement Utah Beach is a living memorial situated on the exact site where American forces landed on D‑Day, 6 June 1944. The museum guides visitors through ten meticulously curated sequences that chronicle the tactics, equipment, and personal stories of the Allied invasion. A centerpiece is the authentic B‑26 Marauder bomber, the last intact example of its kind, displayed in its original hangar. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the site hosts rotating temporary displays of artifacts and research from the nearby village of Brecourt. Visitors begin in the main gallery, where preserved uniforms, weaponry and photographs set the stage for the Battle of Utah Beach. Guided tours provide three different itineraries—an indoor 45‑minute walk, a combined 1½‑hour visit that takes you to the shoreline, and a group or school‑friendly experience that can be tailored to specific interests. When you leave the museum, you’ll still enjoy uninterrupted access to the historic beach and the monument‑filled shoreline. The museum’s location on the south coast of France offers a quiet, reflective setting for a day of history, while its layout encourages family participation, making it a must‑visit stop for school groups and history enthusiasts alike.
