Chartres en Lumieres
About
Chartres en Lumières is an annual light festival that transforms the historic city of Chartres into a luminous wonderland every evening from the 5th of April to the 4th of January. The illuminated shows turn iconic landmarks—such as the soaring arches of the Gothic Cathedral’s north and south portals, as well as Saint‑Aignan and Saint‑Pierre churches—into glowing canvases of colour and motion, while concerts, acrobats, musicians and interactive installations light up streets across the medieval centre. One of the festival’s standout features is the nightly Trail in Chartres en Lumières, a 10‑kilometre running and walking route that follows the city’s illuminated landmarks, offering athletes and families a unique blend of exercise and wonder. Guided tours, immersive sound‑and‑light shows, and festive celebrations add depth to Chartres’ cultural identity, making the event a free, accessible experience that showcases the city’s architectural beauty and creative spirit.
