Domaine des Ouches

Our family has worked on Domaine des Ouches for eight generations. Thomas and Denis Gambier now run this 17 hectares vineyard located in Bourgueil appellation. They produce number of red wines by keeping their different terroirs separate, and also elaborate a rosé that highlights other aspects of their chosen variety - Cabernet Franc. The Gambier Brothers seek to make the utmost of their various plots of land. Grapes grown on gravelly soils, which heat up quickly, ripen more rapidly and are used to produce their delicate rosé and fruity full-bodied red wines. On the hillsides, soils are generally more clayey and lie on limestone bedrock. Maturation is slower and grapes are more concentrated. The greatest care is taken here, with soil tillage, canopy management and harvesting by hand in order to select the very best grapes. Hillside wines are matured in barrels in fine cellars dug into the tuffeau, sheltered from daylight and bed weather.
