Parc Oriental de Maulevrier
About
The Parc Oriental de Maulévrier is France’s largest Japanese garden, spreading over 29 hectares in Normandy. The landscape, designed by Alexandre Marcel in the early 20th century, combines natural water features, bridges, a pagoda, and a diverse array of native trees, azaleas, camellias and maples that change color with the seasons. The garden’s authentic Edo‑period aesthetic, with carefully layered scenery and symbolic plant selections, provides a tranquil escape that feels like a stroll through the streets of Edo. Guests can enjoy free strolling during the day (entrance fee: 10.50 €) or join nightly walks lit by lanterns, complete with tales of Japanese folklore. The park is an inclusive space for families, lovers of gardens, history enthusiasts and solo travelers alike, offering a culturally enriched experience that is memorable for all age groups.
