About
The Église Saint‑Martin in Colmar is a magnificent example of Gothic architecture dating from 1234 to 1365. Its striking red and gold stone façade, intricate tympana, and richly carved portals reveal the medieval craftsmanship of Alsace. Inside, the 13th‑century stained‑glass windows illustrate biblical scenes such as the Last Supper and the Ascension of Elijah, while the high Gothic choir, completed around 1350‑66, provides a soaring, contemplative space adorned with an ambulatory and radiating chapels. A Baroque organ, its case dating from 1755, adds musical heritage to the spiritual ambience. These layers of art and architecture make Saint‑Martin a must‑visit for travelers with an eye for history, architecture, and sacred spaces.
