Jardin des Papillons
About
Jardin des Papillons is a unique butterfly garden located in the picturesque Alsatian town of Hunawihr, nestled between Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr. This privately owned sanctuary houses over 200 species of exotic butterflies from Africa, Asia and the Americas, spread across a series of climate‑controlled greenhouses and lush outdoor gardens. Visitors wander through vibrant floral displays while watching the butterflies glide, land and take off right before their eyes—an experience that feels both magical and educational. Entry to the garden is available from 10 am to 6 pm, April 1st through November 1st, with a slight early closing at 5 pm in October and November. Guided tours can be booked in advance, and the site is fully wheelchair accessible. A small souvenir shop on the exit offers a range of butterfly‑themed merchandise, and a picnic area encourages guests to relax amid the botanical beauty. With friendly staff and a tranquil atmosphere, Jardin des Papillons is an ideal day trip for families, nature lovers and anyone looking to escape the bustle of everyday life.
