Guarded by wrought-iron gates just outside St-Tropez, Le Mas de Chastelas hotel is a hidey-hole away from the crowds and a secret worth keeping. Within easy reach of Pampelonne beach, this relaxed mansion has held onto its historic holiday charm (the authentical 18th century mansion of the Lord of Bertaud has been a hotel since the 1960s) but is laid-back and low-key enough for guests to feel at home. “La Table du Mas”, the hotel’s gourmet restaurant, serves mostly alfresco meals out on the pool terrace. The cuisine gets widely influenced by the fresh products of the local countryside as well as the natural resources from the Mediterranean sea.
