Fort Liédot, originally Fort de la Sommité, because it was built on the highest ground on the island (9 m above sea level) is a fortification located in the northeast of the island of Aix in the department of Charente Maritime. Initially for defensive purposes at the request of Napoleon I, it fulfilled many other functions in turn: place of detention, target for shooting experiments, then Army summer camp. A popular destination for hikers and cyclists, it is now open to guided tours.
