Musee La Piscine
About
The Musée La Piscine in Roubaix, France, is a striking Art Deco landmark housed in a former indoor swimming pool built between 1927 and 1932. Its grand, vaulted shell and luxurious pool area were transformed into a museum by architect Jean‑Paul Philippon and opened in 2000 after an extensive restoration that was completed in 2018, costing nine million euros. The museum’s permanent collection reflects the region’s textile heritage, featuring elegant fabric samples, fashion treasures, ceramics, and ethnographic artifacts that trace Roubaix’s industrial past. Complementing the industrial narrative are fine‑arts exhibits, including notable paintings, sculptures, and contemporary installations, ensuring that visitors encounter both the artistic and industrial stories that shaped the city. Every year, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions, including contemporary art, historical retrospectives, and thematic displays that invite repeated visits. Visitors can also enjoy guided tours, interactive workshops, and special events, including free evening hours on Friday evenings and free access to the permanent collection on the first Sunday of each month.
