Parc Zoo du Reynou
About
Parc Zoo du Reynou, nestled in the rolling hills of the Haute‑Vienne department, is a sprawling 60‑hectare wildlife haven that opened its gates on 1 July 1997. The park showcases more than 600 animals representing 130 species from around the world, ranging from the world’s smallest primate, the pygmy marmoset, to towering Rothschild’s giraffes. Visitors can explore the zoo’s distinct geographical sections – African plains, Asian plains, a South‑American sector, an Australian habitat, and a minifarm – each meticulously designed to mimic the animals’ natural environments. In addition to its living exhibits, the park boasts rare botanical collections, including giant redwoods and American oaks, housed within rock gardens created by André Laurent in the late 19th century. Recent expansions such as the 2016 farm, the river island for red pandas, and the 2016 lodges have broadened the park’s offerings, making it a dynamic destination for families, nature enthusiasts, and travelers seeking an immersive journey into the animal kingdom.
