About
The Village Martyr of Oradour‑sur‑Glane stands as one of France’s most profound reminders of the atrocities of World War II. The original village, destroyed on 10 June 1944 when 643 of its residents were massacred by the SS, has been preserved in a frozen state as a living memorial. Adjacent to the ruined village is the Centre de la Mémoire, a museum that offers powerful exhibitions of documents, photographs and artifacts, guiding visitors through the events leading to and following the tragedy. Open 24 hours a day from 14 January to 16 December, the site invites reflection and education, allowing the memory of the victims to endure in a respectful, solemn setting.
