This traditional farmhouse dating from the 1860s is set back from the road and surrounded by rambling gardens, so you’ll feel like you’re in the countryside even though you can stroll to good restaurants in five minutes. Cecile and Frederic’s family home is stylish without feeling too formal. Breakfast is on the terrace or in the garden – bread, brioche and croissants from the local bakery, homemade jams, yogurt, compotes and cakes. While there are two sitting rooms with fireplaces and plenty of books, the garden is the main draw here: more wild jungle than a formal garden, with a kids’ play area, veg patch and two resident sheep. There are shops and two good restaurants in the nearby village of Vimoutiers, and you’re perfectly located for the Normandy cheese trail. Cycle or walk the surrounding countryside, explore sweet Normandy towns, return to relaxed hospitality.
