About
The Cirque de Navacelles is a spectacular, naturally carved meander basin that stretches across the southern edge of the Massif Central in southern France. Formed by the erosive power of the Vis River, the dramatic canyon walls rise steeply on either side, offering panoramic views of rugged basaltic cliffs, intermittent fluvial features and the meandering river below. Although the surrounding area is sparsely populated, the site has become a prized destination for hikers, nature lovers, and geology enthusiasts thanks to its unique landforms and accessibility via scenic routes. Visitors can explore the area on foot, following marked trails that showcase the valley's geomorphology and the subtle remnants of an ancient oxbow lake.
