About
La Roche de Solutré, rising 493 m above sea level, dominates the eastern Burgundy countryside. Visitors can walk the easy, approximately one‑hour trail that winds up the limestone cliff, spotting unique calcareous grasslands and vineyards below. At the summit a stone deck offers sweeping panoramas of the Mâconnais basin, while the lower terrace hosts the Musée de Préhistoire de Solutré, which showcases Neanderthal and Solutrean artefacts. The site is open year‑round with no entrance fee; guided tours and special exhibitions may carry a small charge. A café and interpretation centre at the Maison du Grand Site provide refreshments and contextual information.
