La Friche la Belle de Mai is a 45,000 square meters cultural site in the heart of Marseille, created on the Seita's tobacco factory. Eclectic, effervescent, challenging, la Friche la Belle de Mai has become one of the most innovative and experimental cultural venues in Europe. La Friche la Belle de mai is one, if not the venue for visual arts in Marseille, with now more than 2,000 square meters of brand new exhibition spaces! It is a workplace and a creative hub, bringing together about 70 cultural and artistic organisations working in different fields amongst which visual arts, theatre, dance, cinema, and music. Almost a town within the town, La Friche spans different generations and social environments, intending to offer artistic activities to a very large public (festivals, exhibitions, shows, concerts, talks,...), and to be a genuine living public space with vegetable home gardens, a restaurant, a day nursery, a bookshop, a skatepark...
